Feb. 28, 2024, 8:38 a.m. - Hope was starting to waver. Our dancing seemed to not be seductive enough to entrance any of the 5/1000 drivers passing heading to Gent from where we were standing. What we thought was Filip's insider knowledge hitching spot seemed to in fact be Filip's cold and Gent driverless spot. Filip passed us in his truck and waved a tear jerking farewell smiling blissfully unaware of how he had cursed us. We made the executive decision to move 1 minute to the other side of the roundabout and lo and behold 5 minutes later we have a lift to Esso services by Ghent with Gündi! (she makes band t-shirts 🤘) Perhaps we should have stood there earlier...
Feb. 28, 2024, 6:09 a.m. - Awake and ready to go after some pain perdu which is French for lost bread (it's just eggy bread). The bread may be lost but we are not, on our way to be dropped at a hitchhiking spot for Ghent/Antwerp!

Feb. 27, 2024, 8:55 p.m. - reached Filip's house! Very modern and filled with plants, will be the cleanest air we have breathed in a while. Will be taking us to a good hitching spot for Ghent on his way to work tomorrow morning!
Feb. 27, 2024, 6:44 p.m. - hopes and dreams of escaping the dreaded Calais tonight have been crushed. Went round the entire ferry asking everyone and not a soul to be found heading in the right direction with room to spare. Unsure of where to stay tonight but will figure something out. IS WHAT WE WOULD HAVE SAID IF OUR MAN FILIP HADN'T COME TO OUR RESCUE (minutes before arriving at Calais with a change of heart). Truck driver,
biker, advocate for living out your 20's, explorer of the world via aforementioned bike (including Scotland multiple times!!) he's got it all and he's taking us to Belgium via his lorry and letting us stay the night and potentially drink Duvel!!

Maybe still you. However. We are finally leaving this dreaded island and we are headed straight for you. We feared the cliffs would be a sight taken away from us BUT NAY it is undeniable that we, the courageous Team 27 (otherwise known as smørresbrød makes you fat) have triumphed on this day.

Feb. 26, 2024, 8:18 p.m. - we have arrived at Medway services after a very ethically diverse conversation in the Mercedes of self made millionaire, Neil, who was living on his own at 17 and now owns multiple concrete manufacturing companies across the uk and mentioned a few times how he knew his career wasn't very ethical and was potentially going to fill lakes with waste... but has done lots of fundraising for charity!!!

Feb. 26, 2024, 5:20 p.m. - As we gazed upon the beautiful formation of a rainbow realised this was not so beautiful as it was because a gigantic rain cloud was heading our way!! Thankfully moments before it reached us Kevin from London came to our rescue and is bringing us to Toddington services!

Thankfully after offering a lift back at Durham we kept in contact with Dan who was still on his way to Birmingham and is bringing us to the nearby (northbound!) service station Leicester forest east!
